First snow

On my wanderings this afternoon to shoot the first snow of the fall, I encountered Bill out shoveling. He and his wife have lived in Longfellow for 23+ years and they have 180′ of sidewalk to shovel. Bill was working to get the slushy mess off the sidewalk to keep it from freezing. He was reminiscing about an early snowfall two years ago that everyone expected to melt but didn’t and left an uneven, very solid, layer of ice for the rest of the winter.
