The Hiawatha Avenue Mural was meant to be the gateway piece for the community of South Minneapolis. Designed by artist Sara Rotholz Weiner and installed by two billboard artists from the Naegele Outdoor Advertising Company, John Keltgen and Dale Hanson, the mural was completed in 1992. At the time, it was the largest mural ever produced in the US, covering 29,000 feet.
